Another cold start

Robbie Garnett Hide
At least 559 Wigeon were tightly packed into flocks on the Tack Piece along with 40+ Shoveler, 12 Redshank, 2 Curlew and several hundred Teal. A pair of Crane (Kia and Chocolo) were towards the west side of field.

South Lake
The flock of 14 Avocet were still present. At least 10 Ruff were hidden amongst the 274 strong Black-tailed Godwit flock on a partial frozen wader scrape with several hundred Lapwing. At least 2 pairs of Oystercatcher also present.

Estuary Tower
A good flock of 736 Wigeon were on the Dumbles scrape this morning, with another 77 birds on the Pillbox Pool. The flock of 241 Barnacle Geese dropped in on riverbank.

Rushy Hide
Just 72 Bewick's Swans were on the upper pond this morning, but another 7 birds were seen on the Top New Piece to the north of the Zeiss Hide. We're approaching the time when our wintering birds will be heading back to their breeding grounds, but we should have some Bewick's Swans here for another week or more. Also on the Rushy this morning were 58 Pochard, 46 Tufted Duck and 111 Pintail.

Kingfisher Hide
The flock of 124 White-fronted Geese were on the Bottom New Piece field this morning.
