Between Storm Dudley and Eunice

A calmer day sandwiched between this weeks two storms.

Estuary Tower

An adult Kittiwake struggled into the wind heading South along the Dumbles, it dropped in with the geese briefly but continued South at 08:43am, at least 14 Great Black-backed Gull, one Herring and one Lesser Black-backed were roosting on the foreshore with 169 Curlew, 4 Oystercatcher and a couple of Dunlin. Just over 100 Wigeon and 9 Pintail braved the waves with the three G. Snow Geese feeding in the saltmarsh pools with ten Bewick's Swans. The Ross's and Snow x Bar-headed Goose was with the Barnacle Goose flock. Looking NNE over the Tack Piece at least 117 Russian White-fronted Geese were feeding in the Goose House Ground.

Tack Piece

A Marsh Harrier flushed most of the birds early morning including two Little Stint but they began to return. At least 40 Redshank, 1 Ruff, 1 Curlew, 260 Wigeon, 34 Shoveler and 12 Pintail remained. Pochard and Tufted Duck were close in at Robbie Garnett Hide.

Rushy

At least 75 Bewick's Swans this morning (18 on Tack Piece) as well as, a few Gadwall, a Mandarin, an Avocet and 19 Snipe with the Lapwing/Tufted Duck/Pintail/Pochard/ Mallard.

South Lake

42 Avocet.

Two Great White Egrets roosting.

Top and Bottom New Piece

Fantastic numbers of Lapwing (c2000), Dunlin (c700), Golden Plover (100s and increasing).

Zeiss Hide

The Dark-bellied Brent Goose was seen in flight on the Dumbles foreshore.
