Visitors to Arundel Wetland Centre can help save butterflies by recording how many they see – and help themselves feel good at the same time.

You can pick up a Big Butterfly Count 2018 spotter sheet until 12th August, and record how many butterflies you see on a mobile phone app.

WWT Vice President Sir David Attenborough launched the Big Butterfly Count at Arundel’s sister wetland centre near his house in London.

Sir David said:

“Get out for the Big Butterfly Count, it’s good for them and it’s good for you.

“Your records can help us gather vital information that may help protect them in the future.

“Spending time with nature offers us all precious breathing space away from the stresses and strains of modern life, it enables us to experience joy and wonder, to slow down and to appreciate the wildlife that lives side-by-side with us.”

WWT Arundel Wetland Centre Manager Tim McGregor said:

“We are very excited to host the annual launch of the butterfly count. What else signals summer like seeing a butterfly flit past you? By encouraging families to note down their encounters, experts can better monitor and protect different species. As a must-do fun outdoor activity, we’ll be handing out spotter sheets at all our wetland centres across the UK.”
