Bill patterns don't lie

An initial count of 65 Bewick's Swans this morning with some birds heading out to the fields early before the 8am feed. A quick recount and check of some bill patterns reveals that we actually have 68 birds on the reserve today, so a few new arrivals!

An initial count of 65 Bewick's Swans this morning with some birds heading out to the fields early before the 8am feed. A quick recount and check of some bill patterns reveals that we actually have 68 birds on the reserve today, so a few new arrivals overnight!

Zeiss Hide
The Bittern was showing well again this morning along with a Water Rail. Out on the Top New Piece were 198 Teal, 92 Dunlin, 3 Golden Plover and 153 Lapwing. A Cetti's Warbler was also heard.

South Lake
Counts from the Discovery Hide included 56 Dunlin, 286 Black-tailed Godwit, 376 Lapwing, Redshank, 42 Shoveler, 116 Tufted Duck, 122 Pochard, 80 Teal and 22 Shelduck.

Robbie Garnett Hide
The flock of 52 White-fronted Geese were on the Tack Piece this morning, viewable here or the new Estuary Tower. Also counted were 538 Wigeon with 4 Redshank and 10 Ruff.

Estuary Tower
A flock of 282 Wigeon were busy grazing on the south end of the Dumbles scrape this morning, a single Ruff was on the Dumbles scrape and the flock of 8 Pink-footed Geese were with the Canada Geese to the north end.

Rushy Hide
A current total of 68 Bewick's Swans present today. Look out for them on the Rushy, or out on the Tack Piece or Goose House Ground best viewed from the new Estuary Tower.
