Cold but sunny morning

South Lake

Lots of duck on the lake, a flock of 45 Tufted Duck, 55 Shoveler, 14 Pochard and 220 Teal. A cold bunched up flock of waders. Lapwing 400, Knot 130, and 145 Black Tailed Godwits. A lone GBB Gull was looking very menacing.

Kingfisher hide

The Bottom New Piece field looks great, absolutely packed with feeding birds. The 45 Whitefronted Geese and lots of Canadas. Lots of waders; Lapwing 600, Golden Plover 140 and increasing, Dunlin 630 at least 17 Ruff, 3 Redshank and a single Curlew. A Cettis was singing nearby and a G S Woodpecker was almost in the hide on the window feeder.

Zeiss Hide

Wigeon 80, Lapwing 490, Golden Plover 6, Ruff 1, Redshank 3, Dunlin 500, Knot 32. Cettis calling but no sign yet of the Bitterns that have been showing so well all week.

Estuary Tower

The 8 Pinkfooted Goose were on the edge of the estuary among hundreds of Greylags, Canada and Barnacle Geese. A building roost of 27 GBB Gulls,a pair of Raven passing over and a female Peregrine.

Tack Piece

Wigeon 603 a great flock of 103 Curlew. A flock of 6 Ruff and 7 Redshank were close to the hide.
