Families find Aliens & Invaders this Feb half-term
Families will find nature’s Aliens and Invaders during February half term at WWT Arundel Wetland Centre. Discover some of the alien wildlife that has made its home in the UK and learn about the invading plants in our habitats. Follow the hands-on Discovery Trail to discover the ‘Aliens & Invaders’ amongst us!
“Animals, plants and insects have been entering the UK since traders arrived on our shores. Some species, like the invasive harlequin ladybird, threaten to crowd out native species.” says Claire Drew, Learning Manager at Arundel Wetland Centre. “This event is a fun way to raise awareness of the importance protecting and maintaining habitat for UK wetland wildlife.” Last week the UK government announced a ban on the sale of five species of invasive, exotic wetland plants starting in 2014.
Arundel Wetland Centre introduces adults and children alike to the wonders of wetland birds and their habitats, with stunning scenery and nose-to-beak encounters with some of the world’s most dramatic and rare birds. The Wetland Discovery Boat Safari runs from between 11am-3:30pm each day. Children will enjoy scrambling over the two ‘wild’ play areas and free crafts in the visitor centre each afternoon. Families can watch the Daily Diving Duck Feed at 2 pm or hand feed the collection of wildfowl from around the world with grain available from the shop. WWT Arundel Wetland Centre is open from 9:30am-4:30pm seven days a week at Mill Road, Arundel BN18 9PB. Call 01903 881530 for event information.
