First brood of Shoveler for the year
Martin Smith Hide
Our first Northern Shoveler brood appeared on the Tack Piece today, at least seven ducklings accompanied their mother, the habitat overlooked by the Martin Smith Hide is often favoured by the scarce breeding species. Two Kingfishers have also been showing here today along with Green Sandpiper and Little Egret.

One Avocet chick with 20+ nests yet to hatch, 17 Black-tailed Godwit, 8 Pied Wagtail, 3 drake Teal, 2 drake Shoveler, drake Pochard, fledging Black-headed Gulls plus nests due to hatch, pair of Cranes with two chicks on South causeway from Hogarth Hide.

21 Avocet, 3 Black-tailed Godwit, 9 Redshank, 14 Lapwing, 3 Shoveler, 5 Gadwall + brood of 6, busy with Reed Warbler at Zeiss Hide as they fed young, singing Sedge Warblers and Reed Buntings, hirundines feeding over with Swifts.
