Fogged in

Not much movement for the birds this morning due to the fog, but as yesterday this has burnt off and revealed a glorious sunny day.

In foggy weather the walkways are great places to look for passerines along the hedgerows whilst wildfowl and waders are hidden in the fields. This morning several Goldcrest were around today, so make sure you check the mixed tit flocks along the walkways. It is always worth checking the Chaffinch flocks too for Brambling mixed in with them.

Rushy Hide
A count of 102 Bewick's Swans on the pond this morning for the feed, with another five over the hedge on the Tack Piece. Yesterday a new family arrived, Turlach and new mate Tranmore, with four cygnets. So far we've seen 127 Bewick's Swans visit the reserve.

South Lake
The female Goldeneye was on the deep lake this morning along with 17 Tufted Duck and 46 Pochard, just visible in the fog. At least 23 Black-tailed Godwit were with the Lapwing flock on the wader scrape along with two Avocet.

Van de Bovenkamp Hide
A small carpet of 194 Wigeon were grazing on the lawn in front of the hide. Later as the fog cleared the Spoonbill and a Great Egret were seen further out on the Top New Piece.
