Geese

Another day with a variety of geese about the reserve, at least 20 Russian White-fronted Geese together on the Bottom New Piece this morning. Two separate juvenile Greenland White-fronted Goose were accompanying them. Perhaps one of these was the individual that arrived on the Rushy last night. The eight Pink-footed Geese arrived from across or from upriver mid morning, They headed to the Dumbles. The adult Dark-bellied Brent goose was on the saltmarsh foreshore with Canada and Barnacle Geese. Other goose news included sightings of the Bar-headed Goose, the Barnacle x 'Grey' Goose, Snow x Bar-headed and Canada x Greylag hybrids on the Dumbles.

Three vocal Peregrine Falcon were over the visitor centre at 0740 this morning.

Rushy Hide

No Bewick's Swans present fain today but at least 45 Pintail and 35 Pochard among the duck present.

Tack Piece

The floods held at least 8 Curlew and 40 Lapwing, 3 Redshank, 90 Wigeon and 50 Teal.

Knott Hide

A rather brown Chiffchaff plus calling Water Rail.

The Dumbles

515 Golden Plover, 115 Dunlin and 400 Lapwing on the floods. Peregrine on the fences.

South Lake

249 Shoveler, 15 Pochard, 70 Tufted Duck, calling Chiffchaff, 249 Shoveler, 390 Teal, 15 Pochard, c70 Tufted Duck, 5 Cormorant, 6 Gadwall, c80 Knot, c550 Black-tailed Godwit, 120 Lapwing and 5 Snipe.

Top New Piece/Zeiss Hide

110 Dunlin, 1170 Teal, 18 Redshank, 7 Shoveler, 300 Wigeon, 34 Pintail, 32 Snipe, 12 Golden Plover, Buzzard, 7 Shoveler, 80 Lapwing.

Kingfisher Hide

Close views in great light of 20 Russian White-fronted Geese (2 broods of two juveniles) and two juvenile Greenland White-fronted Geese + 18 Greylag and 25 Curlew, the Lapwing were beginning to arrive to feed early morning.
