Heart to tackle climate change
WWT Arundel Wetland Centre welcomed its local MP for afternoon tea as part of a national climate change awareness campaign.
WWT is part of an umbrella group called the Climate Coalition who each year invite MPs to visit local groups to discuss climate change issues. The campaign symbol is a green heart.
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert met volunteers and staff at the wetland centre which sits alongside the River Arun. Over tea and cake, he discussed how wetlands help reduce the risk of flood and drought by storing water and releasing it slowly, as well as the wider impacts of climate change in people's everyday lives.
WWT Arundel Wetland Centre Manager Tim McGregor said:
It’s great to have this support from your local MP, both as a local business and as a charity working to help the world deal with climate change.
Nick Herbert also toured areas of the wetland centre affected by flooding in recent years, and saw how WWT is playing its part to deal with flood risk along the River Arun valley running into Arundel itself.
