It's a wet one

It's been a busy and wet morning with events on the reserve, and plenty of birds to see.

It's been a busy and wet morning with events on the reserve with an Advanced Birder ID session and a Birding Breakfast for the new Bewick's Lodge accomodation, but some great birds around despite the weather.

The Dumbles (view from Zeiss Hide)
Three Grey Plover and six Knot were on the foreshore at high tide this morning. An adult Peregrine was on lookout from the large log and viewable from Zeiss Hide. From Saturday the new Estuary Tower will be open, and will offer great views out across the estuary. Find out more about the opening weekend here.

Kingfisher Hide
The two juvenile Greenland White-fronted Geese were still with the flock of 25 Russian White-fronted Geese amongst the Greylag and Canada Geese flocks on the Bottom New Piece. Flocks of Black-tailed Godwit joined the Dunlin and Lapwing to feed in the puddles. A Great Spotted Woodpecker was on the feeders.

Zeiss Hide
An unseasonal flock of five Avocet were on the Top New Piece this morning and two Bitterns were seen in the cut rides below the hide before flying down towards the Kingfisher Hide and Bottom New Piece.

South Lake
At least 87 Knot and 19 Ruff were mixed in with the Black-tailed Godwit flock on the wader scrape this morning.
