Latest Sightings
As the storms and windy weather have continued, the birds have again been sheltering from the extreme weather. This has also led to an increase in barn owl sightings across site, as it hunts during daylight to avoid the worst of the wind.
With the dropping water levels the increase in wader activity has continued, with good views of ruff and black-tailed godwit having been seen from Discovery hide. Also attending the swan feeds is the red-breasted goose, as well as good numbers of winter wildfowl such as wigeon, pintail, and pochard.
Numbers of cattle egrets have also remained high, with the track to Tomlinson hide behind Woodend Marsh offering the best views. 3 great white egrets were also spotted from Ron Barker hide on Monday, so keep an eye out for those!
The bramblings have been showing well at the feeding station near the track by Ron Barker, as they feed on the seeds and millet spread on the ground, alongside other passerine favourites such as dunnock and wren.
And finally there have been more distant sightings of the ringtail hen harrier from United Utilities hide.
