Latest Sightings

Slight change in the weather after the cold snap although it didn't feel much warmer!

No specific counts of late so these are an approximation; 4000+ Pink-footed Geese, 1000+ Whooper Swan, 3000+ Teal, 1000+ Mallard, 700+ Wigeon, 600+ Shelduck, 200+ Pintail, 500+ Greylag, 80+ Shoveler, 60+ Gadwall, 20+ Tufted Duck, 20 Canada Geese, 10 Pochard and 4 Goldeneye.

The Mere this morning rammed with wildfowl

On the wader front still 800+ Lapwing, 60+ Ruff, 50 Black-tailed Godwit, 30+ Snipe and 4 Dunlin.

Raptors included 2 Marsh Harrier, 6 Buzzard, Peregrine, 2 Kestrel and Sparrowhawk.

The Mere is playing host to small flocks of Herring Gull and Common Gull with 100+ of the former and 10+ of the later. One or two Lesser Black-backed and Great Black-backed Gull are also around. An adult Med Gull was on the Mere Thursday.

Six Little Egret seen on Friday is a good count.

Kingfisher from the Ron Barker Hide today. At least 4 Stonechat out on the fences across the reserve. A female Brambling is still visiting the feeder by the Kingfisher Hide.
