A fine start to Wednesday morning.

Sightings for the past couple of days.

Not one but 2 Merlin seen on Monday in what has been an excellent early winter run of sightings of the uk's smallest falcon. At least 4 Marsh Harrier daily with different birds visiting on different days. A regular juvenile Peregrine causing a commotion among the Lapwing, also 3+ Buzzard, 2 Kestrel and 2 Sparrowhawk.

Fifteen species of swan, geese and duck present with upwards of 10,000 birds visiting the reserve; Mute Swan, Whooper Swan, Pink-footed Geese, Greylag, Canada, Shelduck, Mallard, Teal, Wigeon, Gadwall, Pintail, Shoveler, Pochard, Tufted and Goldeneye.

Two Tawny Owl roosting together along the Nature Trail Path and at least two Barn Owl can be seen late on if it isn't raining and earlier in the day if it's been poor weather the previous day.

A Redshank close in with Ruff in front of the Discovery Hide

The usual waders with 700+ Lapwing, 50+ Ruff, a single Redshank, 10 Black-tailed Godwit and numerous Snipe.

Kingfisher on the pool to the right of the United Utilities Hide. Two Raven drifted over the reserve mid morning. At least 6 Stonechat scattered out on the reserve.
