Latest sightings Friday 26th October

Two little egrest were showing nicely on the Folly pond this morning as was the cracking male brambling with the chaffinches on the feeder in the farmyard. 5,670 barnacle geese were counted from the tower with at least twice that in the Caerlaverock parish as a whole. One white, leucisitc bird was reported on the road leading to the centre by a visitor. 74 whooper swans on the resreve all day with 40-50 on the whooper pond at the feeds including 20 ringed birds seen for the first time this season. Of our many old friends seen today, AC7 is back with his mate and a single cygnet, also present were families with 4,3 & 2 cygnets. Folly pond held nearly a thousand teal and 140 wigeon with  66 shovelers. 72 tufted ducks on the whooper pond and both the flood ground and corner field held hundreds of teal and wigeon in the wet flashes. A peregrine continued to cause havoc over the merse in the cool autumn sunshine. Any barnacle geese still on the Norwegian islands will no doubt arrive in the next few days on this northerly airflow. A great time to visit Caerlaverock.
