Little Ringed Plover

Another chilly start, overcast, brighter later. As predicted in the last sightings report our first Little Ringed Plover arrived yesterday feeding along the back of the Mere before being chased off by the resident Ringed Plover. Little Ringed Plover regularly breed at Martin Mere so early days yet. The LRP brings our year list onto 108 species.

Six (3 pair) of Mediterranean Gull on the Mere today, vocal too.

Sand Martin through early on.

Wheatear again seen, this time on Woodend Marsh from the top banking between the Sewage Works and United Utilities Hide.

Pair of Great-crested Grebe in front of the Harrier Hide.

See previous posts for a fuller picture of what can be seen around the reserve. We will be adding a fuller count of wetland birds on Friday.
