Loose Thread Quilters Make Music at Castle Espie Gallery
Make a cosy start to the New Year and check out the return of the Loose Thread Quilters who are showcasing their latest music themed collection of quilts ‘Song of the Quilt’ at the Castle Espie Gallery. The exhibition will run from Tuesday 13th January to Sunday 8th February from 10am to 4.30pm. Loose Thread Quilters is a small group of active quilt makers drawn from all over Northern Ireland.
Formed in 1996, the group established to promote the practice and art of patchwork, appliqué and quilting for the traditional quilt maker and the contemporary fabric artist.
The group is delighted to return to Castle Espie gallery with the latest collection. In creating the pieces, individual quilters took inspiration from music interpreting songs as diverse as well known children’s songs to a tribute to the work of Van Morrison. Helen Hartley has created a piece inspired by ‘Sailing By’, the theme to Radio 4’s late night Shipping Forecast whilst Penny Cole, has evoked memories of the vibrant and colourful musical, The Lion King.
The membership covers a wide range of abilities from beginners to tutors of the craft, all united by a common love of fabric art. Through a programme of exhibitions around the country, fellow quilters and the general public are able to enjoy the work.
Song of the Quilt opens on Tuesday 13th January 2015 at 10am. The Castle Espie Gallery is free to visit with ample free parking.
