Mediterranean presence
During the last couple of weeks the increasing presence of the Black headed gull colony has also attracted up to 18 different Mediterranean gulls in various stages of plumage and age. This morning there were 9 individuals with one pair displaying and another settling on a likely nest site! Could this be the start of a new breeding species for the site?
A male Pintail has been present from the Sand Martin hide for the last week and a possible three pairs of Shoveler, one pair displaying.
Lapwing are beginning to lay now with at least one female sat tight on her nest from the Lapwing hide.
Peregrines , Buzzards and a Red kite this morning all using the thermals off the Hanger.
Two singing Nuthatch this morning with one pair using the tit box No. 17 at the rear of the Lakes and forests exhibit.
Many broods of Mallard ducklings now appearing in most parts of the reserve.
