Brilliant sunshine and lots of ice this morning

Tack Piece

The waders still came in to feed and roost, slightly lower numbers than recent days but at least one Little Stint was feeding with the Dunlin flock and the Golden Plover were very close at times. 21 Ruff and 34 Redshank were of note and although much reduced in number here due to ice today, the Wigeon and Teal were on the flooded scrape.

Estuary Tower

At least nine Cattle Egret remained in the Long Ground Pool roost to at least 08:30am, a large flock of Teal kept the water from freezing here so a variety of duck species are present as well as a Little Grebe. Out on the Dumbles a flock of 350 Wigeon were on the scrape and the Peregrine was on the fence, flocks of geese scattered about included the Ross' Goose.

A raft of 217 Pintail were on the Severn.

Van de Bovenkamp Hide

The Russian White-fronted Geese were again in the Tin Shed field.

South Lake

Pair of Goldeneye, 19 Pochard (6F), 68 Tufted Duck, 11 Black-tailed Godwit, 30 Dunlin, 800 Lapwing on the frozen scrape + 8 Cormorants.

General

A combined count of 145 Pochard on Rushy/South Lake and total of 370 Tufted Duck from the hides.

Chiffchaff near the Otter Enclosure

Big Pen

The first returning Oystercatcher of the year and 123 Tufted Duck.
