Open again at the weekend

Although we have been closed this week, there has been plenty of work taking place to get ready for winter

If you visit at the weekend, when we reopen, you'll no doubt notice that a lot of work has taken place on the Rushy to get it ready for winter, but also some work for next Spring. The vegetation has been cut back, the Swan Pipe has had a few repairs and we've created a few small new islands on the lower pond to help the ever increasing Avocet colony here.

Birding highlights this week have included a Spotted Redshank and Green Sandpiper on the Rushy, up to 260 Knot roosting on the South Lake with the Black-tailed Godwit and Ruff, and an increase in the Golden Plover flock with over 200 birds now present. Several flocks of Redwing have been seen throughout the week, along with a few Fieldfare.

Please note that the reserve and visitor centre will be closed again on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd October due to continuing roadworks in Slimbridge village. After this date, roadworks will continue in the village but a one-way diversion will be in place. Please approach the site with care and follow signage as appropriate.
