Raptor passage?

Passing over today

At least 2 Red Kites and a female Marsh Harrier heading north west. A new immature Peregrine was spooking everything around the site. Keep your eyes on the skies tomorrow with more clear weather forecast.

South Lake

Great birding here again with 62 Avocet and 460 Black Tailed Godwit dominating. They are great indicators for passing raptors, so look hard if they are flying around. Also 9 Cormorant and still 45 Shoveler.

Tack Piece

Still looking busy with 140 Wigeon and a scattering of other ducks. The Whitefronted flock was also showing well, 86 in total including the 2 Greenland's. The 2 Water Rail were as confiding as ever from the Willow Hide.

Kingfisher Hide

Still plenty of activity from the Kingfishers, they are probably in the laying phase at the moment. Great to see a pair of Little Grebes back on the pool as well and Cranes and Lapwings prospecting across the Bottom New Piece Field.

Estuary Hide

Lots of distant Curlew and Shelduck across the muddy Dumbles. An adult Peregrine was at the south end and an immature to the north and all over the grounds.

Zeiss Hide

Highlights were a group of 6 Little Egrets, more of the prospecting Crane pair and lots of displaying Lapwing. A chiffchaff in the reed bed was one of 13 counted around the site today.
