Recent sightings - 13th January

The following sightings were recorded today by Toni Castello, warden, at low tide, and in a cold morning which started with a very thin snow layer, not lasting very long.

Estuary

Oystercatcher 400, Curlew 40, Redshank 20, Shelduck +400, Brent geese 50, Lesser black-backed gull 3, Black-headed gull 1. The Spoonbill has been spotted several times during the last two weeks, and we are getting fantastic numbers and variety of waders at low tide, namely Knot, Dunlin, Black-tailed godwit, Curlew, Oystercatcher and Redshank.

Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard 150, Tufted duck 16, Black-headed gull 41, Grey heron 1, Coot 8, Gadwall 8.

Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Mallard 2, Coot 2, Mute swan 1.

Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory

Little grebe 1, Little egret 1.

Chaffinch 1, Coal tit 2, Goldcrest 1.
