Recent sightings - 18th September
The following sightings were recorded today by Toni Castello, warden, near high tide.
Estuary - visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory
As days pass, we are getting more and more wintering birds, which in some cases appear in notable numbers. Today, as partial results of the monthly WEBs count (monthly winter waterbird censuses held all around the UK): Brent geese +1000, Greenshank 1, Black-headed gull 150, Oystercatcher 360, Curlew 110, Eider 60, Common gull 1, Great crested grebe 1, Herring gull 1, Redshank 80, Shelduck 12, Black-tailed godwit 1, Cormorant 31, Shag 16, Curlew 250
Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre
Mallard +100, Tufted duck 10, Coot 6, Common teal 63, Gadwall 1, Mute swan 1, Little grebe 1.
Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide
Mute swan 1, Grey heron 1.
Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory
Little grebe 4, Tufted duck 4.
Limestone Lake - visible from the woodland lookout
Little grebe 1, Common buzzard 1 (juvenile).
