Recent Sightings 20th November 2023
A very windy count this morning as the tide went out, taking the divers and sea ducks with it. However, several Great-crested grebe and a small group of Red-breasted merganser were still visible from the Limekiln Observatory – their long necks and distinctive saw-bill shape making them easy to identify from a distance. Flocks of Brent geese were out feeding on the exposed mudflats, alongside Curlew, Godwit and tiny Dunlin braving the blustery weather.
Coal tits, Blue tits and Long-tailed tits (pictured) were flitting around the Liberties, making their high-pitched calls and moving through the trees in groups, searching for food. Tits will often flock together throughout the winter to help each other find food and to keep warm at night, seeing out the colder months together.
