Recent Sightings
The highlight, bird wise over the last few days has been the re-appearance of the Spoonbill, still present today from Ron Barker Hide. Also the return autumn wader passage is bringing in new birds almost every day now, lots of new Ruff have been appearing, with the latest count on Sunday being of 16 birds present all males apart from one female. The first few fledged Little Ringed Plovers can be seen on site with 2 adults and 2 juveniles from Ron Barker today. Two Green Sandpipers still on view from UU Hide. Still a few Black-tailed Godwits around the reserve, as well as Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Avocet, Lapwing, Redshank, Snipe
A Cuckoo was heard calling for a few minutes in the collection near the Reedbed Walk this morning. Kingfisher again from Ron Barker Hide today.
Plenty of Dragonflies and Damselflies to see around the reserve with at least 9 species recorded today: Common Blue Damselfly, Blue-tailed Damselfly, Banded Demoiselle, Emperor Dragonfly, Brown Hawker, Common Hawker, Four-spotted Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer, Broad-bodied Chaser
Also at least 10 species of Butterfly today: Comma, Small Tortoiseshell, Small Skipper, Small White, Large White, Meadow Brown, Gatekeeper, Peacock, Red Admiral and Speckled Wood
