Recent sightings - 7th January

The following sightings were recorded today by Toni Castello, warden, near high tide.

Estuary - visible from the Brent Hide and the Limekiln Observatory

Brent geese 40, Shelduck +200, Curlew 70, Black-tailed godwit +200, Redshank +30, Little egret 1, Oystercatcher +200.

Main lake - visible from Sensory garden and Visitor centre

Mallard +250, Tufted duck 18, Black-headed gull 8, Grey heron 1, Coot 7, Cormorant 1.

Wadermarsh - visible from Wadermarsh lookout and Brent Hide

Oystercatcher 1.

Freshwater Lagoon - visible from Brent Hide and Crannog

Mallard +60, Coot 4, Gadwall 4, Little grebe 1, Mute swan 3 young and 1 adult. One young swan was strongly exercising its wings this morning, a sign that its first flight is close!!

Saline Lagoon - visible from Limekiln observatory

Redshank 1, Greenshank 1, Oystercatcher 1.

Limestone Grassland

Oystercatcher 2, Black-tailed godwit 1. It's great to see waders feeding in this patch of grassland after the excellent work from Dexter cattle. Thanks a lot to our partners from Black Beef!

Woodland

Chaffinch 3, Bullfinch 1, Wren 1, Great tit 1, Coal tit 1, Robin 5.
