The mere is awash with young Shelduck at the moment, with new broods appearing all the time, also the female Pochard is still on the mere with the single youngster.

Yesterday a single Hobby flew over the Mere heading towards Ron Barker hide early morning, then shortly afterwards a Cuckoo flew the other way towards Harrier Hide area. A single Med Gull was over the Mere in the afternoon, while today a pair of adult Meds flew over the Mere.

The Lapwing flock is building nicely, now over 350 birds present, also 4 Little Ringed Plover chicks on Woodend Marsh from UU hide along with plenty of young Avocet. Still good numbers of Black-tailed Godwit around the reserve with at least 100 birds.

Two Tawny Owl young were seen a few times near Kingfisher Hide this morning but are hard to find high up in the trees to the right of the path on the way to Ron Barker hide just after the bend.

Broad-bodied Chaser, Southern Hawker, Brown Hawker, Banded Demoiselle seen yesterday.
