Greenshank and Avocet on the Dumbles scrape - MJM
A good couple of days with a few migrants getting through the rain and fog in the mornings.
Warmer weather encouraged the Hobbies to fly, they're feeding on damselflies, this included one over the Five Acre Filter beds/Tack Piece/back of Rushy, another five over fields and ditches to NE of Tack Piece.
Middle Point
The male White-spotted Bluethroat was seen a few times again this morning, no sign at all of it yesterday.
Estuary Tower
Seven Dark-bellied Brent Geese (arrived 4 May) on the foreshore with Canada Geese and large gulls, Greenshank on the scrape (also yesterday), 64 Dunlin and 10 Ringed Plover briefly but a Peregrine flushed them.
Top New Piece
Forty Black-tailed Godwit, 31 Avocet, 3 drake Shoveler, pair of Crane + chicks feeding in the grass and rushes.
Kingfisher Hide
Pair of Kingfishers still feeding young at the nest hole, lots of visits.
South Lake
Two 3cy Mediterranean Gulls attending a nest site among the Black-headed Gulls on the the deep lake islands.
Two Egyptian Geese, 7drake 8 duck -Tufted Duck, drake Teal, 12 Avocet, pair of Cranes with chick feeding in the rushes at the south end of the wader scrape, 4 drake and 1duck Shoveler.
A drake Garganey was present yesterday morning and a Whimbrel dropped in.
Tack Piece
At least 76 Dunlin and 15 Ringed Plover called in, 4 Avocet, 5 pairs Tufted Duck, drake Teal, 3 drake Wigeon, 6 drake 2 duck Shoveler, 4 Egyptian Geese + Greylags and Black-headed Gulls.
Rushy Hide
Five pairs of Tufted Duck, 50 Avocet, drakes of Teal, Pochard and Shoveler, singing Lesser Whitethroat ranging between here and Decoy.
Knott Hide
Singing Sedge and Reed Warblers.
Mammals
Roe Deer have been spotted from many of the hides. Brown Hares have been seen on the Dumbles, on the track below Kingfisher Hide and in the Goose House Ground over the weekend.
