Signs of Migration!
Swallow and martins have been increasing this week with over one hundred over the reedbed this morning. Several Sand martins have been spotted in amongst the flocks. Blackcap singing would also point to some of these warblers beginning their migration as well.
Small numbers of Teal and Shoveler in various places around the reserve and also look out for Green sandpipers which have been seen on several occasions this week.
Look out for moth wings on the Sand martin hide floor, the evidence of the nocturnal dining of a Brown long-eared bat.
Lots of insect activity with Migrant and Southern hawker dragonflies adding to the mix. A Banded demoiselle put in an unusual appearance on Arun riverlife in the week. Butterflies are increasing with newly emerged Peacock, Red admiral and Small tortoiseshell.
