The new year begins

I would like to wish everyone a very happy new year and all the best for 2011.

I had a lovely Christmas and New Year, mainly spending it with my family and close friends - I do enjoy this holiday as it is a time when you can properly relax.

But now the snow has completely disappeared, it is business as usual at Martin Mere and I am really looking forward to some exciting projects in 2011 including the canoe safari opening, a new exhibition in the old cafe space, more webcams and we should hopefully be getting the designs finalised for a brand new play area which will be a big project early in 2012. I hope that you will follow all of the development news on this diary throughout the year.

In the short term, however, it is that time of year for staff appriasals and we have the model boat and train show coming up in a few weeks as well as a couple of great new events this year including a bird of prey bonanza, the Bird Watching Festival will be heavily focussed on photography for the first year and we are also looking at a natural history weekend - so I have plenty to keep me occupied throughout the year!
