The first Redwing of the season flew over the car park this morning, two birds heading south-east. We're also continuing to see a great selection of waders on the river, and an adult Mediterranean Gull was on the South Lake.

South Lake
An adult Mediterranean Gull was on the causeway with the Black-headed Gull this morning. The wader scrape is gradually filling up after the work which took place earlier this week, attracting in a few Teal and ten Black-tailed Godwit. The deep lake held 73 Tufted Duck, a Little Grebe, ten Cormorant, 74 Shoveler and a Pintail.

Zeiss Hide
Three Spotted Redshank, four Curlew Sandpiper, 18 Black-tailed Godwit, 40 Ruff, 23 Golden Plover and five Avocet were here at low tide, along with several hundred Teal two Pintail and four Wigeon. A Water Rail was in the reedbed rides and two Snipe were on the northern island.

Middle Point
Two Stonechat were in the reedbed. Out on the estuary at low tide were at least 542 Dunlin, six Ringed Plover, 27 Grey Plover, 227 Shelduck, two Sanderling, a Little Stint, five Bar-tailed Godwit, two Redshank, 113 Curlew, a Golden Plover, a Peregrine, five Little Egret, five Cranes, six Grey Heron and two Raven. High tide today is around 12:30pm, but reduced to just 6.6m. It should be enough to push the wader flock around, but we'll start to see more birds remaining on the riverbank to roost rather than heading for the Top New Piece as the tide levels drop into next week.

Rushy Hide
A Kingfisher was doing laps of the lower pond this morning looking for somewhere to perch up. Also on the lower pond were 40 Black-tailed Godwit and seven Redshank.
