Wildlife though a lens! WWT launches photography competition in Slough
Slough’s budding wildlife photographers will have the chance to showcase their skills at a local photography competition launching in March.
WWT, together with Slough Youth Parliament, are running the event which aims to celebrate the town’s waterways and wildlife by urging people of all ages to get outside and explore.
There are three separate age groups; 8-12, 13 to 16, 17+ and seven different categories, selected by the Youth Parliament. These include animal portraits, creative vision (videos up to 90 seconds), dawn and dusk by the stream, photojournalism, wildlife of our waterways, black and white and wetland plants and fungus.

WWT’s Slough Engagement Officer Shelley Rowley said:
“Slough may be a bustling town but you only have to scratch the surface to discover a world of exciting animals such as kingfishers and water rails, herons, little egrets and a huge range of fascinating insects and plants.
“We want to encourage kids of all ages to step outside and explore their local urban wetlands and the wildlife within them.
“By teaming up with the Slough Youth Parliament to kick-start this competition, we hope this will inspire as many people as possible to reach for their cameras and mobile phones to snap us something really striking.”

The competition, also backed by Thames Water, will be officially opened at a special event at The Curve on March 1 and throughout the month, a series of creative photography workshops and stream walks will be held.
The deadline for entries to the photo competition is April 20 and an awards ceremony will be held for the winners at a special outdoor exhibition in Salt Hill Park on May 12.
