Ahead of the much anticipated arrival of the Bewick's Swans, we've started feeding the Rushy and duck numbers are now increasing

Ahead of the much anticipated arrival of the Bewick's Swans, we've started feeding the Rushy and duck numbers are now increasing. Numbers are also rising on the Tack Piece, with arrivals of Wigeon and Teal most evident.

Rushy Hide
Duck numbers are now building as we've started our feeds. Come along to watch at 4pm in the Peng Observatory. Our commentated feeds won't start until the Bewick's Swans arrive in the coming weeks. This morning duck numbers included 29 Pochard, 124 Tufted Duck, 17 Pintail, 50 Shelduck plus several hundred Mallard and a few Teal.

Estuary Tower
A Mistle Thrush was feeding on sloes in the copse, and a flock of Fieldfare were taking berries along the Tack Piece hedgerow. A flock of Redwing were feeding in the hedgerow along the walkway near Willow Hide and Knott Hide, and in the Withy Bed.

Martin Smith Hide
A Kingfisher flew in from the Rushy and landed on the fence line. Two Water Rail were on the left hand island feeding amongst the Teal, a Snipe was on the right hand island, with duck including three Shoveler and 16 Teal. A Cetti's Warbler was also seen.

Robbie Garnett Hide
At least 275 Wigeon were amongst several hundred Teal on the Tack Piece this morning. Also of note were a single Spotted Redshank, two Black-tailed Godwit, a Redshank and two Snipe.
