WWT Report and Financial Statements 2012/13
The main areas for development and priority focus are:
•
Implementation of a plan of developments and
innovation at our wetland visitor centres to attract
more people to engage with the charity and to inspire
them to support positive conservation action through
learning about wetlands and their wildlife.
•
Increased emphasis on visitor segmentation and
engagement at our centres to provide visitors
with a more interesting, informative and enjoyable
experience that better meets their needs.
•
Developing better maps, orientation and interpretation
to guide visitors around our sites.
•
Overseeing new developments at Martin Mere,
Arundel, London, Washington, Caerlaverock
and Slimbridge.
•
Developing strong and consistent formal learning
programmes for our schools market and an online
learning presence.
•
Progressing the key elements of our conservation
strategy through projects to help save threatened
species, focussing our advocacy and policy work
on key priority issues to inform and influence
government decision making, and to expand our
wetland conservation programme.
•
Promoting and demonstrating the benefits of
wetlands including a major managed realignment
project at Steart in Somerset.
•
Continuing to manage our nature reserves to the
highest standard and to demonstrate best practice.
•
Continuing to grow WWT (Consulting) Ltd to provide
expert, professional advice on how to conserve,
improve and manage wetlands in the UK and
internationally and to generate increased profits to
fund the charity’s conservation work.
•
Maintaining high quality and value for money in our
retail and catering operations while responding to the
changing aspirations and expectations of our visitors
and members.
•
Growing and engaging with our membership through
new recruitment channels, online communications,
events and our members’ magazine.
•
Increasing WWT’s profile and influence.
•
Implementing our volunteering strategy to be able to
recruit, develop and encourage more volunteers to
support the Trust.
