Outdoor activities shine this Easter, whatever the weather
Easter may be a bit chilly this year, beginning only a week after the start of Spring. Easter has been in the month of March only five times in the last 20 years. The last time was in March was 2008 when it fell even earlier on March 23! The forecast for this holiday weekend is mixed but temperatures will be in the double digits with spots of sunshine.
The start of Spring is a great time for families to get outdoors and experience new life in nature. Paul Stevens of Arundel Wetland Centre says “Air is full of birdsong with robins, warblers and wrens attracting mates and making nest. Coots build towering nests in the water and lapwings make amazing tumbling dives over wet grasslands. Children love to spot wild mallard ducklings which are hatching out now.”
There are 16 GIANT ducklings that children can look out for this Easter, too. The Giant Duck Hunt begins at Arundel Wetland Centre on March 24 through April 10. Children will love being hunting outdoors to find the ducks and win a chocolate Freddo Frog treat. A spot of pond dipping adds to the outdoor experience and leads to fascinating nature discoveries.
