Around Caerlaverock, Sunday Dec 6th

The recent storms have moved on through bringing calmer brighter weather today, though there is a lot of residual water in the avenues. up to a foot deep. Visitors without snorkels and flippers should at least wear wellingtons as the wider access hides and towers cannot be reached without. Visitors coming from the east should be aware of a road closure under the railway bridge in Cummertrees, and flooding also in Bankend. Best route in is via Dumfries

As usual after heavy rain there is a good broadcast of wildfowl utilising the temporary flashes, though the Ring-necked Duck, Greater Scaup and Green-winged Teal are at their usual stations
