Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Around the reserve, Thurs 14th Jan

Cold and sunny today, for a very welcome change. All road access is fully open though the avenues here are still quite waterlogged, so bring your wellies.

Lots of Roe Deer evident lately, with 15 to 20 individuals at least. Little Egrets prominent too, with 12 or more dotted around. Goose nos. appear to have dropped off a bit, but this is likely due to their dispersal into lots of smaller feeding flocks making monitoring difficult. Plenty around nonetheless. Merlin, Peregrine and Hen Harrier all seen recently, generally on the merses.

Today's spring tide is at 15:09, 9.5m
