Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Close alert

Caerlaverock sightings 6/4/13

Over 3500 Barnacle Geese visible from Farmhouse Tower today, and about a dozen Whoopers still around. NB Feeds at the Peter Scott Observatory have now ceased as the building will be fully closed from Monday 8th April, allowing the building work for its replacement to begin. Swan feeds now take place on Folly Pond and Back Pond.

Elsewhere,  Little Egrets are frequenting the Flood Ground, 10 Black-tailed Godwits are on Folly Pond (at least some things are starting to move through!), along with the usual Teal, Wigeon, Shoveler and Shelduck. Golden Plovers and Lapwings can be found around the Avenue Tower. We're still getting occasional Peregrines, but awaiting Osprey yet...
