Accessibility during autumn and winter

During the colder months, the reserve can be wet and muddy so waterproof footwear is recommended. Those with limited mobility or using push wheelchairs may find traversing the Avenue and Saltcot Loaning unsuitable. Please call us on 01387 770200 for more info.

Caerlaverock wildlife update, Wed Jan 20th

A good bright day, with little wind, but cold still at just above freezing, with a lot of the water bodies still iced over. Whooper Swan nos. are still a bit higher than of late, at around the 160 mark, though the Barnacles are more sketchy. Our dog Otter continues to put in appearances, giving a 10 minute performance yesterday in front of the Peter Scott Observatory, to the consternation of the just-fed swans and ducks on the Whooper Pond. Still a few Brambling around and up to 3 Water Rails in the Peter Scott Trail. Green-winged Teal is on the Folly Pond as usual but we still await the Ring-necked Duck for today...

Today's high tide is at 08:59  8.1m
