Reframing Nature

Experience different perspectives of our reserve this summer.

As part of Drawn to Water, our Quentin Blake partnership, we were inspired to create a selection of frames using natural and repurposed materials along our Walk on the Wild Side. From weaved willow circles that highlight the small wonders of wildflowers and a swan nest, to one placed over a bench offering a view of the sky and cloud-busting, the frames are designed to encourage you to experience different perspectives of our reserve.

The centrepiece is a giant frame made from driftwood that was collected from the shore of the Saltcot merse. It is a perfect snapshot of Criffel, a favourite local landmark.

Following the banks of the Lochar river, you will come across a life ring which whilst still functional, has been repositioned to offer a vantage point of the tidal water and the sand banks, which upon closer inspection can have tracks from birds, deer and even otter.

We encourage you to take time to connect more with the surroundings of our wetland meadow throughout the summer. Spend a few moments to enjoy the views in various ways.
