Around Caerlaverock, Tues 17th Nov

There was a roost of six Little Egrets last night, in a Scots Pine within the Peter Scott Trail behind the picnic area. These can be found dotted around the fields and merses during the day. Barnacle Goose numbers remain good, with 7000-8000 daily. The Snow Goose appears to have relocated to the north cumbrian shore however. A few Yellowhammers and Tree Sparrows continue to show along the path to the Scott Observatory; perhaps they will increase given the colder weather to come. We're still getting a Kingfisher from the Back Pond Hide. The Whooper Swans are still quite flighty but most feeds are presenting 50 or more. The lead-up to high tide has been good, with flocks of Knot, Dunlin and Shelduck in numbers, plus Grey Plovers and  the inevitable hunting Peregrine. Male Hen Harrier too on a daily basis

The tracks remain wet at the moment, so if you are planning to visit, please be prepared and wellies would be recommended.

Today's high tide is at 15:30, 8.6 mtr
