Around Caerlaverock, Tues 20th Oct 2015

A misty but beautiful calm sunny morning here. the 39 or so Whooper Swans to have arrived so far are in a stubble field just off the eastern end of the reserve. Two families of cygnets so far (a 2 and a 3) number amongst them. Just two birds were at the 08:30 feed

A Kingfisher was seen testerday from the Back Pond Hide where the water level is low, but currently being topped up

Lots ofr Barnacle Geese around and amongst them yesterday was the white-phase Snow Goose. Yesterday's count of Barnacle Geese was close to 7000, valso numbering a few hundred pinkfeet with them, making for a lovely mixed flock spectacle

A few more winter thrushes around today, Fieldfares particularly, enjoying the healthy crop of hawthorn berries in the avenues, small flocks of Lesser Redpolls and Siskins there too

Today's high tide is at 17:40, 8.0m
