Caerlaverock, Monday Dec 7th

Much calmer and less rainy today, but access from the east is still tricky, with flooding closures of roads at Cummertrees and at Bankend bridge. Visitors coming from eg Carlisle/M6 should come in from Dumfries, inevitably meaning a bit of a detour. This could apply for a day or two yet. Things are still wet on the ground at the reserve here too of course, with plenty of Barnacle Geese to marvel at, in scattered smaller flocks than is typical, as often happens after heavy rain. The Wigeon and Teal flocks are similarly rather dissipated. 80 Whooper Swans attended today's feeds, with a similar number just off the reserve enjoying some temporary flooding
