Caerlaverock reserve, Thurs Dec 24th

The B724 remains closed at Cummertrees  due to flooding, so visitors arriving from the direction of Carlisle/M6 should re-route via the minor road to Ruthwell and Cummertrees from A75 at Kinmount.
Barnacle Goose nos are on the up, with the locally visible flocks totalling over 7000. Whoopers are pretty constant at around 120. A lone Goosander has joined the throng at the Whooper Pond again, along with the long-staying male Ring-necked Duck. The even longer staying male Green-winged Teal is at his usual station on the Folly Pond. Up to 8 Little Egrets can be found dotted around. Our little pump is working overtime to clear the water in the main avenue, but visitors should be aware that wellingtons remain de rigeur for access to the Avenue Tower and Campbell Hide.
Merry Christmas all
