Sightings 23/03/2017

It looks like yesterdays bad weather has passed through and the forecast is looking really good for this afternoon and the next few days.

There has been a lot of Whooper Swan movement country wide over the last few days, we had a departure of birds overnight on Tuesday with around 37 remaining for the feeds. However, we could see more swans drop in over the next few days as birds from further south move up the country.

The single drake Garganey was see again on the 21st, this time on the back pond so could easily still be skulking about in any of the pools on reserve. Also the Green-winged Teal is still hanging around on the folly pond.

A flock of c1000 Golden Plover are still using the fields around the avenue tower, showing a range of plumage from winter to summer. A Turnstone was found in this flock on Tuesday, quite a rare bird for the reserve with it being the complete wrong habitat. Other waders include 56 Redshank using the folly pond.

Todays high tide is at 8:28, 7.2m
