14 Baby Duckling hatch perfect timing for Easter at Castle Espie

14 Little Ducklings captured by Richie Lort

Spring is in the air and WWT Castle Espie was delighted to see the arrival of 14 little adorable mallard ducklings hatch at the weekend. The main breeding season is in full swing and many of our birds are pairing up with elaborate courtship displays and hard-fought battles for nesting territory.

So join us this Easter and meet the first baby birds of the season, claim a chocolatey prize in our Giant Easter Bunny hunt where the kids will have the chance to find large coloured bunnies around the reserve with a special clue map. Remember to bring your camera as there will be a special photo opportunity at the end of the hunt. Pop your face into the free standing Easter cut out and you will be transformed into an Easter Bunny. Kids can enjoy our doodle bunnies by leave their mark on our bunny board. Free bunny crafts will be running all day long with a helping hand from our Easter bunny staff. Those wanting to burn of those Easter eggs can visit Stoat Town natural play area. Running from Sunday 2nd April to Sunday 15th April, 10am - 5pm.)

Did you know that wildfowl, waders, poultry produce young which are able to walk and see which leave the nest within hours. Young possess well developed, insulatory down features (hence the young wildfowl are called Downies). Special duckling events and tours will be taking place every weekend and Wednesday at WWT Castle Espie Wetland Centre during the month of June.
