Name the Brent Play Barn Characters at Castle Espie’s New Soft Play.
Work has started at WWT Castle Espie Wetland Centre transforming what was originally a cattle barn into an Arctic themed soft play room called the Brent Play Barn where young visitors can connect with nature through play.
The new soft play environment, suitable for children under 115cm is themed on the Canadian Arctic where wild light-bellied brent geese raise their babies in summer before journeying hundreds of miles to Strangford Lough.
Features include an Arctic fox den with a sleeping cub, a research hut and slide as well as a brent goose clamber play area, nest and animal rockers.
In preparation for the Brent Play Barn opening in early February, Castle Espie is running a competition to name the characters which feature in the soft play equipment namely a brent goose, Arctic fox, king eider and Arctic hare. The winning individual or family will be invited to officially open the Brent Play Barn on Saturday 7th February.
Sarah Clarke, Castle Espie centre manager said:
“By creating this Arctic themed soft play area we believe we’ve created a fun environment where little ones can have a special connection with nature. The brent goose theme was the natural choice given their strong link with Castle Espie. Each year around 80% of the world’s wild population flock to Strangford Lough in early Autumn and year visitors can feed the light-bellied brent geese in our Close Encounters wildfowl collection.”
