Launch of "Still Waters" Exhibition by Award Winning Artist Rosie McClelland
On Saturday 10 November at 2pm, Castle Espie Gallery, nature through art, will be opening the doors to the exhibition ‘Still Waters’. This is the inspired title of an exhibition by Belfast artist Rosie McClelland. The exhibition will run from Saturday 10 November to Sunday 2 December 2012, the gallery is open 7 days a week from 10am with free entry.
Rosie paints exclusively using oils and pastels which provides her with the freedom to change things as she proceeds, Rosie highlights “Whether water-themes, still-life motifs, or the human form, the subject matter in my paintings is a spring-board for the start of a journey. Each painting has a set of problems to be resolved, not just formally but also in the connection to the subject and my own personal response to the painting as it evolves.”
Rosie was born in Belfast in 1950. She attended Foundation studies at the Ulster College of Art, is an honours graduate of Manchester Polytechnic, Faculty of Art and Design and studied Fashion Illustration at St Martin's School of Art, London. After studying she worked in London as a designer and Illustrator before relocating in 1981 to Frankfurt am Main in Germany. She returned to Northern Ireland in 1999. She has exhibited with the Royal Ulster Academy, Royal Hibernian Academy and is a member of the Arts Society of Ulster and The Pastel Society of Ireland. Her work can be found in public and private collections in Germany, France, UK and Ireland.
Rosie went onto say, “Having lived for 18 years in Germany I drew a lot of inspiration from the German Expressionists and recently have been revisiting and learning from the older masters such as Caravaggio, Zurbaran and Chardin.” Rosie has also picked up a number of Awards including Bigger and Strachan Award for Portrait and Figure-Drawing "Portrait of Ciarán Curry" Arts Society of Ulster 2012. Join us on Saturday 17 November at 2pm as Rosie will be holding a pastel demonstration and showing the process she uses to produce her pastel pieces. She will be talking about how she prepares the support and the build-up and layering of a work in progress.
