Make a Splash at the Northern Ireland Puddle Jumping Championships 2020

Back by popular demand, the Northern Ireland Puddle Jumping Championships return this February half term to WWT Castle Espie Wetland Centre from Saturday 15 to Thursday 20 February.

Back by popular demand, the Northern Ireland Puddle Jumping Championships return this February half term to WWT Castle Espie Wetland Centre from Saturday 15 to Thursday 20 February.

Grab your wellies, family and friends and get outside and see if you can make the biggest splash and earn the title of Northern Ireland Puddle Champion 2020.

Along with producing the biggest splash, contestants will also be judged on their enthusiasm and jumping style. Daily winners will be announced throughout the six days of the competition and lucky ‘super-splashers’ will receive fantastic prizes!

For the first time in the history of our Puddle Jumping Championships, adults, as well as children, are being encouraged to unleash their inner child and release every day stress by joining in the puddle jumping championships.

To help you perfect your splashing technique there will be practice zones set up near the competition zone as well as a host of other muddy activities available throughout the half term including wild welly walks, welly bootcamp with an exciting obstacle course for visitors to dip, dive and jump their way to the end of, welly wanging and children’s craft.

Speaking in advance of the Northern Ireland Puddle Jumping Championships, Paul Stewart, Centre Manager at WWT Castle Espie Wetland Centre said;

“Puddles are mini wetlands which wildlife use to feed, drink and bathe.We also know that children love nothing more than to splash about in puddles so we thought we’d give them the chance to channel their inner splasher and showcase our mini wetlands by hosting the Northern Ireland Puddle Jumping Championships once again in 2020.”

“We’ve really perfected the championships this year, with brilliant competition areas, practice puddle zones and lots of additional welly and mud related activities and great prizes. Grown-ups are even being encouraged to take part.”

“It’s all a lot of fun and we know that children who love puddles often grow up to be adults that love the outdoors. Through these championships we’re gently nurturing a love that may help protect wetlands and the wildlife that depend on them for years to come.”
