Sand martin nest bank reopens

We have opened our sand martin nest bank again, now that the birds have reared their first broods. We kept it closed for a few weeks this year to see if the reduction in noise increased the number of pairs nesting, but it doesn't seem to h

ave helped as we've only had 15 pairs, a big decrease from about a decade ago when up to 80 pairs used the bank. We'll be checking sand martin data when it becomes available to see if there is a general decline across the region. But do come and visit the bank in the meantime; these aerial acrobats are marvellous to watch and they're now bringing up their second broods!
